Emigration and an ageing population, economic and social change – these are only some of the challenges facing the inhabitants of the Styrian Eisenstrasse. What changes do local people want? And how can the problems be tackled?
The Social Atlas documents the answers given in 67 projects that emerged during the Social Festival Tu was, dann tut sich was. The ideas and visions for improving quality of life and social participation are examples of a sense of responsibility, individual initiatives and creative handling of local knowledge in each social and spatial environment, that could also be exemplary for other locations. The underlying challenges in the region are also presented from a scholarly point of view in terms of social geography, sociology and poverty research.
Tu was, dann tut sich was. is a project by Internationales Forschungszentrum für Soziale und Ethische Fragen (ifz) and the members of SinnStifter, a joint initiative of six Austrian foundations (ERSTE Foundation, Essl Stiftung, Turnauer Stiftung, Schweighofer Stiftung, Humer Stiftung und Unruhe Stiftung). The aim of Tu was, dann tut sich was. is to spark sustainable development in structurally weak regions of Austria.
