The publication Memory of the City is a result of the eponymous project and in the same time dossier on the activities that were realised within the project from September 2011 till January 2012. It explored the memory and the cultural heritage of the City of Belgrade, striving to identify different ways to activate the memory in urban regeneration and city identity formation, ranging from public policies to different practices in the field of art and culture.
The project encompassed an exhibition of Dušica Dražić’s artwork dealing with private memory of citizens of Belgrade and its possible impact on the city development (Cultural Centre of Belgrade, 17 August – 1 September 2011). Part of the programme was also an international symposium Memory of the City – Participative Policies and Practices in service of Activation of Memory in the Development of the City (Cultural Centre of Belgrade, 12-13 September 2011) as well as the realisation of an art installation in public space. The installation dealt with the topic of the place of collective memory and was a result of joint work of artist Milorad Mladenović and students of the Faculty of architecture during the preparation workshops.
The catalogue (Serbian/English) contains texts of relevant experts (Milena Dragicević Šešić, Bertrand Levy, Zoran Erić, Olga Manojlović Pintar) and photo documentation on all project’s activities.
