Normalities presents artists from the Western Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia), Austria and the United States. While the exhibition focuses on a specific region, it also features an impressively multifaceted array of personal statements by various artists.
The plural chosen in Normalities already suggests that the exhibition invites visitors to look at “normality” from different perspectives. The term itself cannot be defined concisely, let alone exhaustively; its meaning is subject to constant change. The idea was to select a title that allows for different interpretations. The exhibits explore different approaches, they deal with history, identity, forms of perception and industry standards.
