Using the Library
Anyone may use the ERSTE Foundation Library collections on site without a library card. You may search for information resources at our open-access collection on the premises, read or study at the library’s study places—WiFi is available. A (free) library card enables you to check out material for use outside the library.
Search the library’s Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) to find books, magazines, journals, videos, DVDs and individually catalogued electronic resources collected by ERSTE Foundation Library.
Catalogue records for print material will display the location of the material in the library. Links embedded in the records for digital resources will give you free or institutional access to the full text or take you to the publishing institution. Ask the librarian for institutional access at ERSTE Foundation Library’s desk.
In order to obtain a library card from the main desk or the reception desk of ERSTE Foundation Library, you need a valid ID. Once registered, you may borrow material from the library’s collections, update your email address online, place holds as well as check on or renew your borrowed items.
In general, ERSTE Foundation Library does not limit the number of items checked out. It is the cardholder’s responsibility to note the due dates for items borrowed and to return or renew them by those dates. Although we don’t charge fees for overdue items, we rely on you to keep the borrowed material safe and clean and to return it when due.
The loan period runs for four weeks unless otherwise agreed on or renewed. Use your library card to access your library online account, view the books you borrowed and when they are due. The ERSTE Foundation Library online catalogue (OPAC) will indicate whether an item is on hold or whether any other use restriction on further extending the loan period applies.
Reservations
Via the ERSTE Foundation Library online catalogue (OPAC), you can reserve books from all collections. We highly recommend using this option especially for items from the Economics and Financial Literacy Collection as access is limited during certain meetings and events. For detailed information on how to search the collection and make reservations, please refer to our guide here.
Renewals
You may renew in person or by calling the library at +43 50100 15461. You may also renew items for another four weeks by accessing your library account yourself through the ERSTE Foundation Library online catalogue. Please get in touch with our librarian if you need to check out material for a longer period.
Holds
Holds may be placed in person or through the ERSTE Foundation Library online catalogue with a valid library card. The ERSTE Foundation Library online catalogue will indicate whether a hold has been placed on an item or whether any other use restriction applies.
Recalls
If you urgently need an item that has been checked out to another library user, please ask for a recall at the library desk. As soon as the recalled item has arrived, the library will notify you by e-mail. You may also log onto the ERSTE Foundation Library online catalogue to check the status of the recalled item yourself.
Use the self-check machine at ERSTE Foundation during opening hours to return your borrowed books or see our librarian for returning your media at the library desk.
To use the self-check machine, just touch the Return button on the screen of the machine, place the media you are going to return upon the plate and the system will automatically take back your borrowed items. Please put the returned media in the box labelled »book drop« next to the machine.
We do not encourage returns by mail, but if it is necessary, make sure that you mail the package to:
