Martin Pollak in conversation with Michal Hvorecký
It was a double murder that added decisive cracks to the ossified political landscape in Slovakia. The murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancé in February 2018 deeply shocked the country. The nationwide protests continued until the government and the police chief resigned.
Since then a lot has changed. Intellectuals like Michal Hvorecký are the driving forces behind a new citizens’ movement that is committed to the freedom of speech and the empowerment of civil society. The successful Slovak author talks about an “Eastern Europeanization of the West”, in which, of course, Putin has a large say.
Philipp Hauß will read texts by the author.
In German.
