About the Award
The ERSTE Foundation Award for Social Integration was initiated in 2007 by the ERSTE Foundation’s Social Development team.
The Award’s idea came from the wish to offer recognition and to encourage the creation of fairer and more inclusive societies in the Central and South East Europe. The countries from this part of Europe have been facing similar changes and issues in the recent past, therefore they now struggle in the same way to develop societies where nobody is left behind.
The Award develops from one edition to another, from four countries included in the call in 2007, to twelve countries in 2011.
